[-] Q. What makes Hiawatha HomeCare different from other home care agencies?

A. Hiawatha HomeCare is able to empathize with families because we live it 24/7.  Our founder ‘s son, Michael, was Hiawatha HomeCare’s first client.  We know ‘first hand’ what it is like to have non-family caregivers in the home.  We steadily maintain an exceptional staffing ratio due to our professional, dedicated and caring staff.

 

[+] Q. How long has Hiawatha HomeCare been providing care?

A. Hiawatha HomeCare has been serving clients in Minnesota and Wisconsin since 1988.  What started with one client has grown to having served over 700 clients.

 

[+] Q. Is Hiawatha HomeCare licensed to provide home care?

A. Hiawatha HomeCare holds licensure through the Department of Health and is licensed to provide home care in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.  We are a Medicare Certified agency and comply with all Medicare standards and regulations.  Hiawatha HomeCare is an active member of the Minnesota Home Care Association and the Wisconsin Home Care Organization.

 

[+] Q. How are nursing hours determined?

A. Hiawatha HomeCare works closely with the client, the client’s physician and family to assure that the client’s needs are met.

 

[+] Q. What is the family’s role when receiving home care services from Hiawatha HomeCare?

A. We are not in the home to replace family caregivers.  We will work with you to provide training to allow the family and client the choice to determine which cares they would like assistance with.  Hiawatha HomeCare does require that there be at least one “willing and able” caregiver to provide cares for the client.

 

[+] Q. How are home care nurses selected for my loved one?

A. Hiawatha HomeCare adheres to the highest standards for hiring our staff.  Upon hire, all nurses undergo a thorough criminal background check, a skills assessment, and license verification.  We provide our nurses with a comprehensive orientation to the company and the client.  We provide annual training and opportunities for continuing education.  Hiawatha HomeCare strives to ensure that our nurses are highly skilled and able to handle different situations and emergencies.  Our Case Managers regularly supervise and evaluate our nurses to make certain that the client is receiving the care they deserve.
Our goal is to provide the highest quality homecare to our clients and we understand that trust in your caregiver is a large part of that.  If, for any reason, you are not satisfied with one of our professionals, we encourage you to contact us immediately to express any concerns or problems you are having.  We are committed to giving you the highest level of customer service and we will work with you to provide staff that you are comfortable with.

 

[+] Q. Is the nurse allowed to accompany a client to school, activities or social events?

A. Hiawatha HomeCare nurses are allowed to accompany clients to all medical appointments, classes, social activities and events as long as transportation is provided by a family member or a transportation company.  With advanced notice, special arrangements can be made to accommodate almost any request.
